Going to the Buffalo Farm up near Mattawa not far off of Highway 11 has always been on my bucket list. The allure of being able to stay in a yurt with the smell and warmth of a wood burning stove floating through the circular structure has always appealed to me. When the opportunity arose to hang out with some creatives over a winter weekend at Evelyn Barkeys Algonquin North Workshop I jumped on the opportunity to hang out at a great space with some like minded individuals and create some amazing work! I was really excited for what would end up being an incredble Buffalo Farm Winter Engagement and two beautiful elopements the next day! Getting up to Mattawa was quite the journey as I began my drive up Highway 11 it began to snow and by the time I had hit Bracebridge it became a total whiteout. For those of you have ever driven in a whiteout you know how bad of a drive it can get and even scary! Luckily for the majority of the drive I was following behind a long line of other cars and transport trucks, but when I reached Huntsville all of the traffic seemed to disappear and I was totally on my own in just a sheet of white. Definitely a nerve wracking experience! I am just thankful for my Jeep and its four wheel drive and that I was driving during daytime.
A three hour drive turned into an over five hour drive but finally I made it to the Buffalo Farm and was so excited to kick off a great weekend. Amy and Kyle showed up shortly after I arrived doing a similar drive from their home in southern Georgian Bay but were equally as excited to start their beautiful Buffalo Farm Winter Engagement Session. The Buffalo Farm is home to a yurt, tipi and cabin which we had access to all three throughout the weekend. We headed over to the beautiful large circular yurt that backs onto the buffalos field where you can watch them explore. Amy and Kyle snuggled up on this blustery winter day by the wood burning stove to stay warm as the wind whipped around the cabin. The yurt is so spacious inside with the coziest couch where the natural light pours in, a beautiful skylight that brights the room, and so many places to relax and enjoy the beautiful of the yurt and the entirety of the farm. We decided to brave the cold as the sun began to set to get the dreamiest of golden hour photos outside of the yurt and wood cabin. It was definitely worth the drive for this incredibly cozy Buffalo Farm Winter Engagement session.
Something I always encourage all couples if you love your cabin, cottage, or have a special place that doesn’t have to be outdoors at some epic hiking location doing your lifestyle photos whether they are couple, engagement, maternity or anything else you would love can be as easily done in these special places! Renting an airbnb if you don’t have a cottage or cabin and this is a place you dream of getting your photos done is the perfect way to document a beautiful space and your love story while enjoying a nice weekend get away at the same time! Without further ado I am so excited to share this beautiful and cozy Buffalo Farm Winter Engagement Session.
