There is something so incredibly special and mystical about the world famous black sand beach in Iceland, Reynisfjara. Located on the south coast of Iceland near the small fishing village of Vík í Mýrdal this beach made up of basalt lava. Between the other worldly looking basalt columns, the black sand that seems to go on for miles, the Atlantic Ocean waves slamming into the beach and the stunning panoramas Reynisfjara is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever stepped foot on. I was so excited when I saw that Laura and Luis would be in Iceland the same time I would be and they so excitedly agreed to meet me for a sunrise Iceland engagement at the Black Sand Beach.

Laura and Luis are actually wedding photographers themselves from Germany and were travelling through Iceland on a two week trip in a campervan. Funny enough when I went down for breakfast in my hotel on the morning of their sunrise session they actually were sitting right next to me and we didn't even know it until we met an hour later! When I greeted Laura and Luis in the darkness at the parking lot of Rejnisfjara for their Iceland Engagement at the Black Sand Beach they excitedly told me that they had recently gotten engaged only two days before! I was absolutely over the moon for them and was so excited to be able to capture their recent engagement in a place as special and unique as Iceland. As we headed down to the beach we were shocked to see there was no one on the beach with us - what luck for such a popular destination! We took advantage of the lack of people on the beach and explored this incredible place to its fullest.
As the sun began to rise and light up the rocky sea stacks just sitting off the shoreline, known as Reynisdrangar, were glowing in the distance as the waves slammed up against the rocks at the far end of the beach. Icelandic fokelore says these sea stacks are actually a couple of trolls that saw a ship out at sea in the night and waded out to reach it. They got a hold of the ship and began to drag it to shore but as they got close to shore dawn broke and the trolls and ship were instantly frozen into stone, and have remained immortalized since. The views of the sea stacks with the sun rising on them were a sight none of us will soon forget.
Exploring the Black Sand Beach with Laura and Luis was the perfect way to spend an early morning and I am so thankful for getting up early to capture their next chapter in their relationship and watching the sun rise with them. Laura and Luis thank you for trying to keep up with my fast talking (they did so well for English not being their first language!) you made me realize I do talk really fast aha! I hope you had the best rest of your journey through Iceland and am so in love with these beautiful photos from your Iceland Engagement at the Black Sand Beach.
