There are so many places to choose from across this beautiful province when you are trying to choose where to propose in Ontario, but how do you choose where? There are 5 things you should take into consideration before choosing a spot!

Backdrop

  • Do you have a specific backdrop that you have in mind for your proposal?
  • Is there a spot that has a special meaning to the two of you?
  • What kind of view / backdrop would you like to have while proposing?
  • What kind of landscape would you love to be surrounded by during your proposal?

What Season Will You Propose In?

  • Do you have a time of year you had in mind to propose?
  • Is there a date you that has a special meaning to the two of you?
  • Are you planning on doing your proposal indoor our outdoors?
  • If you choose outdoor are you okay if it rains, snows, etc.?

Privacy

  • How private do you want your propose to be?
  • Are you comfortable possibly proposing in front of a few other peoples if you are in a public space?
  • Would you be willing to propose at early or later times in the day to avoid crowds if you are outdoors in a public space?

Activity

  • Is there a specific kind of activity you had in mind to be doing during your proposal?

01 Georgian Bay

02 Cottage / Airbnb

Ontario is home to so many beautiful cottages and is a place where many head north every spring through fall to relax, take in the beauty of our province and create memories. Whether you own a cottage or just enjoy spending time at friends cottages or rentals proposing at a cottage is an incredible idea! You can rent a cottage in your favourite area or a new spot on Airbnb or head to your family cottage if you have one and propose in your favourite space, at sunrise, on a canoe or boat – your opportunities are endless!

Muskoka, very similarly to Georgian Bay is filled with so many hidden gems, incredible cottages to rent, secret waterfalls, hiking trails along the Canadian Shield with amazing view points and so much more. Algonquin Provincial Park is a popular wilderness park that people both locally and from afar come to visit. From the incredible wildlife, backcountry camping, endless canoe routes, epic hiking and the true feeling of being in nature Algonquin is an outdoor lovers dream. 05 Killarney

Killarney is a nature lover and adventure enthusiasts dream. From the peace and quiet you get in northern Ontario, the stunning white La Cloche Mountains, the hiking trails that go on for days in Killarney Provincial Park, incredible canoeing routes, the quiet town of Killarney it is truly an incredible place to propose. Manitoulin Island is home to some of the most underrated, epic landscapes! It is, for the most part, a hidden gem. There is a wide variety of landscapes to choose from when planning your proposal. We have lush waterfalls, natural sand dunes, and rocky cliffs. If you’re choosing to propose here, you really can’t go wrong. It is the outdoor adventure enthusiast’s dream come true!

Eastern Ontario

07 Prince Edward County

Prince Edward Country sits along the coastline of Lake Ontario and is filled with so many amazing little gems. From the popular Sandbanks Provincial Park, the many wineries, the cozy towns there truly is so much to choose from in PEC if you are thinking about proposing here!

08 Bon Echo Provincial Park

Bon Echo Provincial Park is home to the seventh deepest lake in Ontario (Mazinaw Lake) and one of its defining features is the 100 metre high Mazinaw Rock that has over 260 Indigenous pictographs. Golden Horseshoe (Greater Toronto Area & Niagara)

Toronto is a very popular place to propose and its easy to see why! From cute bistros, the incredible waterfront, Toronto Island and some of the many great city viewpoints there are so many options jam packed into the city you cannot go wrong if you choose to propose in Toronto.

10 Rattlesnake Point

Rattlesnake Point is the famous spot of Shitt’s Creek David and Patrick and is also a popular hiking spot for those that live in the Burlington area. It gets some of the best sunsets in the area and you can see as far as Lake Ontario from the point. It is not too far of a walk from the parking lot making it an easy hike to get there. It would be the perfect place to propose at sunset!

11 Hamilton Waterfalls

One of the most popular places to visit not only in the Hamilton area but in the Golden Horseshoe is the many waterfalls that can be found throughout the Hamilton area. From multi-tiered waterfalls to dramatic tall ribbon waterfalls plunging over the Niagara Escarpment. 12 Dundas Peak

Dundas Peak is a spectacular and very popular lookout located in Hamilton’s Spencer Gorge Conservation Area. Dundas Peak lookout is a very popular spot for locals and tourists alike and its easy to see why. From the beautiful lookout it gets over Hamilton and the valley along with some of the most stunning sunsets you have ever seen you cannot go wrong with proposing at Dundas Peak. 13 Kelso Conservation Area

All the mountains feels with an incredible hiking and view points, but on a smaller more manageable scale. Kelso Conservation is often overlooked by locals and tourists alike, making it the perfect place to propose on top of the Niagara Escarpment with incredible views and stunning sunsets.

14 David Dunlap Observatory

If you love the night sky and watching the stars then the David Dunlap Observatory is the perfect place for a proposal. Setting up a little night time picnic with your telescope or going on a tour of the observatory is the perfect way to make this incredible proposal one to remember.

South Western Ontario

15 Grand Bend

Grand Bend is a great place to visit in the warmer months to swim, relax in the sand and make some incredible memories! From the amazing Blue Mountain Village or the seasonal ski hills and skating loop there is lots of activities to do. If you are looking for an adventurous place to propose make sure to check out Scenic Caves that has natural caves and caverns or Ontario’s longest suspension bridge. If you are looking for a relaxing weekend away the Scandinave Spa is the perfect place to treat yourselves to some R&R and celebrate your proposal.

17 Tobermory

Tobermory is one of the jewels of Ontario and a true outdoor lovers perfect place to explore. Home to Bruce Peninsula National, Fathom Five National Marine Park and so many other amazing places this is an incredible place to propose. From the popular Grotto, one of the many day hikes in the national park, at Flower Pot Island, on a helicopter tour over Georgian Bay, sitting under the stars at one of the many lighthouses in the areas your options are truly endless for proposing in Tobermory.

18 Port Elgin

Port Elgin is filled with beautiful walking trails and has nabbed the number two spot for the best sunset location in Canada. It is not hard to see with so much variety so close together, why it is one of the best locations to propose to that special someone. Enjoy a walk in the woods that leads to a romantic cobblestone beach and watch the sun go down with your best friend.

Head back to the place it all began! This would be an amazing spot to start the next chapter in your lives at the place you first met or the place you had your first date.
