Romantic Archeo Wedding in Distillery District

September 9, 2018

One of my favourite things about photographing a couple on their wedding day is getting to know them. I met Kristinne and Mat back in 2015 when I had started a new corporate job and they were some of the first friends I made on the job.  They had met years earlier at a previous job where Mat had been tasked to train Kristinne they became friends and the rest is history. When the got engaged in 2017 and reached out to me to photograph their wedding I was over the moon excited! These are two of the most genuine, funny and outgoing people you will ever meet. I knew their wedding at Archeo in Toronto’s Distillery District would be a day to remember and it certainly was.

We started our day with both Kristinne and Mat getting ready surrounded by their friends and family and from there we headed down to the Distillery District for their first look. We found a secluded area right on the edge of the Distillery District where the was no one else and they would be able to have this intimate moment without any distraction from the hustle and bustle of the city. Their beautiful and emotional first look had everyone with tears in their eyes and after lots of hugs and some laughs they were ready to explore the Distillery District with their wedding party. It was an incredibly windy September day, but that worked to our benefit as the high winds seemed to seem people in their homes and the Distillery streets empty. As the sun began to set we headed back towards Archeo for their ceremony.During the ceremony Mat surprised Kristinne by reading his vows in Spanish, which is Kristinne’s family’s first language. He worked incredibly hard to be able to get through these beautiful vows and it had the entire crowd in tears. It was the perfect way to blend the two families into one for the start of this new chapter in their lives.

Their reception was a perfect representation of the couple with the dramatic Game of Thrones music playing in the background, each of the tables were named after one of the Game of Thone’s houses, the lego pieces that held up each name card, the two piece band that played some of Kristinne’s favourite music from her home country of Venezuela and so many other wonderful details. To top of the night Kristinne and Mat introduced crazy hour on the dance floor. This was new to me but is a Venezuelan tradition at weddings where people get fun props like sunglasses, glow sticks, hats – anything goes! The music changed to the upbeat songs of the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s that everyone knows and can sign along to. The crazy hour took a quiet dance floor and turned it around to a fun, packed hour of dancing that no one wanted to miss a moment. I think this is how every wedding should go as everyone loves dancing the night away on the dance floor.

The entire day was filled with so much emotion and joy it truly was a beautiful day for Kristinne and Mat’s Archeo wedding. Thank you Kristinne and Mat for inviting me to capture these memories for you on such a beautiful day I truly feel so blessed. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness and am so excited to see what is next for the two of you. xo.
