Moraine Lake is probably one of the most photographed locations in Banff National Park alongside Lake Louise, Peyto Lake to name a few. It is known as the twenty dollar view as it was featured on the Canadian twenty dollar bill for many years and it is easy to see why it is an iconic view of what many believe the Canadian rockies to look like. Moraine Lake is a popular place that many go to for their engagement photos, wedding photos, elopement, a proposal, landscape photos or so many other reasons. Sarah had been dreaming of being able to get her photos taken and we were unable to do them when Chris and I visited last time as it closes in early October so luck was in our favour this time to photograph this Stormy Moraine Lake engagement.
The previous day we had driven down to Kananaskis for some sunset photos which you can check out here. Then we all drove back to Banff to get some shuteye for an early wake up call. We woke up at 3am to drive to Moraine Lake in the dark in hoping of catching the beautiful sunrise that so many wish to see while visiting the mountains. It was not our luck to see the sunrise that morning as it was pouring rain but we would not let that stop us from taking some incredible photos. The overcast, stormy vibe gave some beautiful colours and really made the turquoise lake pop.
Sarah and Jordan were truly the best as they stood outside at this crazy hour in the morning, in the misting, relentless rain with nothing but beautiful smiles and laughs for their Stormy Moraine Lake Engagement Session. We had so much fun climbing along the rock pile enjoying the incredible views of Moraine Lake and watching the fog roll across the peaks of the mountains. I could not have been more thankful for such an incredible couple. Weather is the one thing we cannot control when it comes to adventurous engagements as well as wedding days and if you don't let that bother you it truly will be the best time of your life.
We ended our session with a fun champagne pop which warmed the soul after being outside in the rain in the early hours of the morning. Then we all headed off to warm up and grab some breakfast and maybe even a nap! Sarah and Jordan thank you for being so willing to do anything while always having the best smiles on your face. I truly cannot wait for your wedding in a few months it is going to be absolutely magical. xo.
